Jana Chittoo's Reflections:
I would have to say that Chinese 1 is definitely one of the toughest modules. Learning a new language is definitely not an easy task especially when my native language is completely different from Chinese. This being said, I’m glad that I did take up Chinese. It was something new, fun, tough, enriching and it provided me with a new experience. I have learned plenty of Pin Yins and Chinese characters, which would certainly help me in future.
Furthermore, the highlight of the Chinese module is our project. Our group was required to find a native Chinese speaker to interview them. We had to come up with a video and blog to showcase our work. I’m glad that I had an awesome group. Everyone did their part and we finished our project according to our deadline. In addition, our interviewee helped us tremendously. She even helped me with my pronunciation, as I’m not very good in it.
Fathima Fathah's Reflections:
I took up this module because I thought knowing汉语was an important skill to survive in 新加坡. My journey in learning汉语has been a very enriching experience. The way the various aspects of the language was taught made learning relatively easy. The use of dialogues, games and conversation practices in class made it simple to grasp the way汉语 works. Learning to read and write 汉字 is tough but it is gratifying when I can identify and read signs and texts written in汉字. The project put our new knowledge to the test as we collaborated to prepare the script, the interview itself and the blog. It was really fun working with and getting to know my group mates. None of this would have been possible without the help of Cathy and Xiè老师. They made the learning process enjoyable and interesting, especially Cathy老师's character writing stories and jokes.

Pia Lindqvist's Reflections:
The interview project in Chinese 1 was a good way to conclude the module content. First it was a bit difficult to come up with a topic, but after watching earlier project videos and discussing with (the great!) teammates we finally found a story to please us.

The involvement of a Chinese-speaking guest was a nice idea
from the project planner. It was good to hear fluent Chinese and actually be
able to understand it, even though the phrases were very simple! Also her
corrections to our pronunciation were helpful. Maybe we could have included
even more her speaking in our project.
I want to thank my incredible team for being so productive
and creative what comes to the project. It was great to work with you!
Maria Montonen's Reflections:
Our team showed good teamwork in my opinion; everyone took part in the project and took the initiative needed to finish the task at hand. We managed to adhere to deadlines, which was one of our initial goals. This meant that we were never in a hurry to finish the project; we able to take our time and produce the best piece of work that we possibly could.
Overall, I feel that the project was a success. It was a great way to bring together everything we have learned over the past weeks. I hope to continue studying Chinese in the future! We have been given such a good foundation to build on.

I felt that the interview process worked well! Our interviewee was very cooperative. She spoke slowly so that we were able to understand her and helped us pronounce words that we were having difficulties with. For me personally, I felt that the hardest part was in fact the pronunciation. Chinese is so different from my native language, so this has posed problems for me throughout the module. However, we worked hard as a team and helped each other with any difficulties that we faced.

The highlight of this course was definitely our Chinese Project that is presented on this blog. It was nice to put our skills to practice in creating a script for our project. Also, I felt like the project helped us review what we had learned so far in class.
During the project, we all worked equally hard, met the set deadlines and were able to finish the project without rushing. Also, I felt that our interviewee helped us with our project. She patiently helped us pronounce words and spoke clearly and slowly. As a team, we also helped each other with whatever was needed. In addition to our hard work, our team had fun with photographing and recording as well as getting to know each other.
